The 2024 Sizzlin’ Summer Shootout took place June 7th and 8th in Greenville, South Carolina. It is one of my favorite events of the entire year and has been a June must-stop since before my Prep Hoops days. There were 32 teams in action across two divisions and 3 locations and it concluded with Boiling Springs High School claiming the Silver Bracket Crown and Oceanside Collegiate Academy claiming the Gold Bracket Crown. Take a look at this list of Rising Seniors who stood out from the Gold Bracket:
Reese Walter
HEIGHT 6'1"
POS SG
CLASS 2025
State: South Carolina
School: Boiling Springs
Reese Walter Reese Walter 6'1" | SG Boiling Springs | 2025 State SC had a tremendous performance for the Bulldogs to help them defeat Landrum and win the Silver Bracket Championship. While we know he is a knockdown perimeter shooter and he did make multiple threes, it was his passing that was most impressive. He had 12 Assists by my count playing as a true Point Guard and displaying his vision, handle, and feel for the game. Boiling Springs got out in transition early and often in the final, and Reese balanced pulling up and dumping off to a teammate perfectly. Walter had 12 Points and 2 Steals to go with the 12 Assists.
Highlights
Devin Swindler
HEIGHT 6'3"
POS SF
CLASS 2025
State: South Carolina
School: Clinton
While Walter was someone who stood out in the final game of the Sizzlin’ Summer Shootout Silver Bracket, Swindler was someone who stood out in the first game of the Sizzlin’ Summer Shootout Silver Bracket. With his AAU team, Devin has much more spacing on his drives but with Clinton, he was forced into several bodies on every drive. He still displayed strength, athleticism, and an ability to play off two feet despite this scheme. Swindler also showed off his vision and desire to get his teammates involved, and was almost too unselfish at times. Devin went for 17 Points, 9 Rebounds, and 5 Steals in the game.
Highlights
Coyie Poole
HEIGHT 6'1"
POS CG
CLASS 2025
State: South Carolina
School: Chesnee
Club: Next Level Elite
Coyie is one of the better spot-up shooters in South Carolina’s 2025 Class and he had a nice game against Travelers Rest on Friday. While the perimeter shots weren’t falling at an extremely efficient rate, he still had 5 makes on 11 attempts and did much more than just catch and shoot. He did a solid job of making plays off the dribble in both half court and in transition. Poole can finish through contact with either hand but is also comfortable with his floater over rim protectors. Coyie went for 27 Points in the win and you can expect him to be one of the state’s top per-game scorers if Chesnee is successful this coming fall.
Benett Edwards
HEIGHT 6'2"
POS SG
CLASS 2025
State: South Carolina
School: Landrum
Club: Next Level Elite
Edwards was a bright spot for the Cardinals in the Silver Bracket Championship Game loss. He has been a dependable option for Landrum throughout his career and now will have the pressure of being the #1 in his Senior season. Benett is a solid all-around Guard with a strong frame who can back down smaller matchups, get to his spots off the dribble, rebound consistently, and good defensive properties. Edwards was much more effective in the second half as his consistent probing and driving started to wear down his matchups. He finished with 13 Points and 10 Rebounds in the loss.
Jason Taylor
HEIGHT 6'5"
POS PF
CLASS 2025
Jason Taylor
School: Travelers Rest
I was very impressed with one of Jason’s performances this weekend at the Sizzlin’ Summer Shootout. Taylor has the length and strength to be a factor in the paint on the defensive end, but also the ability to knock down jump shots and take his man off the dribble. He has a very confident and consistent stroke from behind the arc that must be respected by opposing defenses. The combination of foot speed and handle is also tantalizing because it makes him a true matchup nightmare for opposing big men. Jason finished with 16 Points, 8 Rebounds, and 4 Blocks in the game.
Ji Wiggins
HEIGHT 5'5"
POS PG
CLASS 2025
Ji Wiggins
School: Travelers Rest
Wiggins is a prospect I was unfamiliar with coming into the weekend but made lots of winning plays for the Devildogs. He was a game-changer on the defensive end, speeding up opposing ball handlers in the half-court defense and in a full-court press. His foot and hand quickness make him a handful to get past and even if you do, he’s likely to strip you. On the offensive end, Ji has good body control and frequently took a bump, steadied himself, and finished with his right hand. Wiggins also has very good vision and a solid handle. He went for 16 Points, 8 Assists, and 6 Steals in a matchup with Chesnee.
